An Austrian judge has is allowing authorities to hold 73-year-old Josef Fritzl for an additional month without filing charges. Fritzl has been in police custody since April 29. (May 9)

U.S. allowed to send one aid plane to Myanmar

Myanmar has agreed to let the U.S. send one plane full of aid to help cyclone victims. Meantime the UN says the junta seized what it sent today and is pleading with officials to distribute the food and supplies. (May 9)

Lebanon teeters on brink of civil war

Hezbollah fighters, their guns blazing, seized control of west Beirut on Friday after three days of street battles with pro-government foes pushed Lebanon dangerously close to all-out civil war. At least 11 people have been killed and dozens wounded in the fighting that dramatically escalated on Thursday after Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said a government crackdown on his powerful militant group was a declaration of war.
